The January transfer window is fast approaching, and elite clubs worldwide are looking to bolster their squads for the rest of the season. Manchester United right-backs Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka have uncertain futures.

The latter, however, is more likely to be plying his trade in a new kit.

The Portuguese defender will return to Old Trafford after Portugal’s exit from the World Cup.

While his contract expires in 2023, United can extend it by a year.

Given Dalot’s performances for the Red Devils, it is no surprise that they are pursuing a long-term deal.

A fitting replacement for Wan-Bissaka

United are keen to bring another right-back to Old Trafford. Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong is a prime target (via Sport Witness).

On November 29th, Sky Deutschland confirmed that the Dutch star is not oblivious to Manchester United’s interest.

The recently turned 22-year-old has racked up five goals and three assists this season.

The starlet’s performances warrant the attention, and Leverkusen’s sporting director Simon Rolfes is not surprised that the elite clubs have taken note.

Expected attention

Despite the circling clubs trying to lure Frimpong away, Rolfes is relaxed. Frimpong’s contract only expires in 2025.

Speaking to Sky Deutschland, Rolfes said, “He is very conspicuous with his way of playing and is an enormously important player for us. I told him that he will still get his playing time with his quality within the tournament.

“He can decide a game with a single action because he’s incredibly quick and good at dribbling. We’ll be happy when he’s back [after the World Cup] with us. Jeremie has a long-term contract at Leverkusen, so we’re very relaxed.”

With the Qatar 2022 ending soon, United boss Erik ten Hag will be doubling down on his efforts to build a squad that can restore the Red Devils’ reputation.
